Earth Day is right around the corner and many Americans have spent the last few months making grand plans to celebrate the day. On Tuesday millions will participate in festivals, recycling events, and campaigns across the country. But, there are many more individuals who are less eco-minded that will go about their normal day, paying little attention to the environmentally friendly hoopla.

On April 1st, 2008 the average Cuban was given a freedom most everyone in America takes for granted, the ability to possess a cell phone. Under the previous Communist Leader, Fidel Castro, cell phones had been restricted to individuals working for foreign firms or those who held key posts in the government. This ban was lifted by new President Raul Castro (the brother of Fidel) in what seems to be a goodwill gesture to the people of Cuba. Read the rest of this entry »

To combat these issues, CellForCash.com and Carbonfund.org have created a new eco-partnership. Their goals are to reduce the amount of wireless industry waste and the carbon footprints of Americans.

The FCC said 214 applicants qualified to bid in the upcoming 700 MHz auction. The auction is set to begin Jan. 24 with high profile names like Google, Verizon, at&t, and a host of other small lesser known companies. The FCC offilcially classified Frontline Wireless LLC as ineligible to bid. They abruptly closed up shop this week when upfront payments were due. The "fake it till you make it" approach doesn’t work with the FCC. For more read the recent RCR article.

As of midnight on February 18, 2008, cellular telephone companies will no longer be required to provide analog cellular service. While most wireless telephone users will not be affected by this transition (often called the “analog cellular sunset”) others will.
